Software Installation Overview
Important: PDA Checklist: Upgrading from older Palm to new Treo 700W
- Cleanup / purge old tasks and notes from old device.
- Sync old palm; get critical data syncing to correct places (the servers, not Palm Desktop)
- Update calendar client, if needed
- Updated OCFO client, if needed
- Uninstall OracleSync
- Install ActiveSync
- Sync new device
The installation of this software requires administrator rights. If you do not have admin rights, please contact your LAN Coordinator. A list of LAN Coordinators is available at the ITS Service Desk website. Go to the Support Contacts by Department drop down menu. There are two types of installation procedures for Pocket PC Setup:
Installation #1 - For Microsoft Outlook 2003 users with Oracle Connector.
- Grant user administrator rights - Contact your department LAN administrator for assistance.
- Log into workstation with the admin account. Download latest version of ActiveSync from Microsoft. The PDA is not connected at this point.
- Run ActiveSync—this will initiate synchronization between the device and the workstation.
- Remove user administrator rights. Refer to document in step number 1.
Installation #2 - For users of Microsoft Outlook 2003 without Oracle Connector OR users of third party email clients (e.g., Thunderbird, Netscape Mail).
- Grant user administrator rights - Contact your department LAN administrator for assistance.
- Log into workstation with the admin account. Download latest version of ActiveSync from Microsoft. The PDA is not connected at this point.
- Download and install Oracle Calendar Sync for Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) to workstation.
- Run ActiveSync—this will install Oracle Calendar Sync on the device and initiate synchronization between the device and the workstation.
- Remove user administrator rights. Refer to document in step number 1.
